The Cemetery Association of Murphy, Inc.

Murphy is the home of what once was the largest unmaintained cemetery in Collin County, The Maxwell Cemetery, currently named the Decatur-Maxwell-Murphy Cemetery. Located on the northern edge of Murphy, Texas, this cemetery is the final resting place of many of Murphy's earliest settlers, with burials dating from 1853 to 1966. The Decatur-Maxwell-Murphy Cemetery contains approximately 3 acres and over 300 graves.
In September 1993, The Cemetery Association of Murphy, Inc., a non-profit corporation, was formed to provided for the restoration and preservation of this cemetery. The ultimate goal of the association is the perpetual care of the cemetery. This long-term goal will require literally thousands of dollars to establish, and meanwhile, ongoing upkeep is needed

CLEAN UP DAY AT THE CEMETERY
January 7, 2012 - Cemetery Assoc. of Murphy Cemetery Clean-up Day
The public is invited to join members at 10 a.m. at the Decatur-Maxwell-Murphy Cemetery for a clean-up day of the grounds. Please bring gardening items such as rakes, weed eaters, clippers, gloves, etc. Every hand helps!
On May 15, 2010 Collin County Historical Commission's Preservation Celebration and Awards Ceremony- A Gold Ribbon Event was held at the historic First Christian Church in Plano. This year's nominees for awards included two volunteers of the Cemetery Association of Murphy, Inc.: Anna Shapavalova, youth nominee, and Marcia Jowers for her work coordinating events to promote Murphy's landmark, the Decatur-Maxwell-Murphy Cemetery.
Lolisa Laenger, Vice Chair of the Collin county Historical Commission, was the recipient of a special award for her 24 years of service to the Commission. She is a long-standing member of the Cemetery Association of Murphy, Inc. Judge Keith Self also recognized Lolisa and the director of the Farmstead Museum was for getting the prestigious museum recertification
Those attending the celebration from the Cemetery Association of Murphy were: Anna Shapavolova, William (CAM President) and Marcia Jowers, Lolisa Laenger, Ann (CAM Secretary) and Don Sielert (CAM Treasurer), Joy Gough and Donna Jenkins.
