History Blooms in the Decatur-Maxwell-Murphy Cemetery November 2, 2013

November 2nd at the historic Decatur-Maxwell-Murphy Cemetery twenty-one members and volunteers came ready to spruce up the grounds and plant bulbs at the base of markers in the cemetery. Boy Scout Troop 1812 took over the planting project around the Historical Marker as well as planted bulbs at grave markers. The group included Troop leaders Frank Baum and Tom McCurdy and Scouts Nick Baum, Justin Baum and Charlie McCurdy.

Roxanne Bogdan planted a side garden that will serve as a backdrop to the Cemetery Association's annual Memorial Day observance. Kent, Blake, Carter and Taylor Bogdan planted over 150 bulbs at grave markers while Teresa Jones, Donna Jenkins and grandson Nick pulled up over 150 weeds in the front flower beds!

In addition Mike Hendrix ace weed eater, Don Sielert expert hole digger, Joy Gough experienced bulb planter, along with Ann Sielert, William Jowers and Marcia Jowers contributed their time and energy to the Saturday "History Blooms in the Decatur-Maxwell-Murphy Cemetery" bulb planting event.

In preparation of the Saturday event, on Friday Will Cottle mowed the entire cemetery, Mark Munden and Colton Dobias weed-eated around all of the markers and David Bottlinger treated the cemetery for chiggers and other critters so that the workers the next day could return home bite-free.

In the spring, check out the cemetery! In the meantime, visit the Cemetery Association of Murphy, Inc.
